Workshop: Paper + Paint + Stitch

In this 5 hour workshop held over 2 weeks, you will be introduced to the medium of watercolour, collage and embroidery, resulting in the creation of contemporary abstract multimedia artworks. This workshop is aimed at adults; however, if you are 16 years or older, you are more than welcome to attend! Designed for beginners or those with minimal experience, as an introduction to watercolour painting and the creation of mixed media artworks.

About the Experience:

Week 1: Day 1 – 2.5 hours

You will be introduced to the medium of watercolour and paper, brushes, colour and colour-mixing and how elements can be used in abstract artworks. Through teacher-led demonstrations, you will work through a series of techniques and gradually familiarise yourself with the materials, while exploring elements such as colour, shape and pattern in an abstract, contemporary manner. With experienced teacher guidance, you will use these newfound skills to independently create a series of contemporary experimental paintings, ready for day 2.

Week 2: Day 2 – 2.5 hours

Returning to the studio the following week, you will use the artworks created previously and your new knowledge to explore combining these works with collage and stitching in order to create new artworks. You will learn simple embroidery stitches such as long stitch, back stitch, chain stitch, French knot and running stitch to accentuate and embellish your works. Our small group setting ensures a calm and personalised approach to your creative experience, based on this places are strictly limited so bookings are essential.

A maximum of 8 participants ensures individual support and fosters a sense of community within the group; a minimum of 3 participants is required. If you are interested in this workshop but are unable to attend midweek please reach out, as a weekend workshop is an option depending on numbers.
